Free Pre School Year in ECCE

In January 2010 the Government introduced the Free Pre School Year in Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) Scheme, providing free pre-school places for all children of eligible age.

Some parents will find that their childs birth date means they could avail of the scheme in September, and in the following September e.g. a child with a birth date of the 05/05/2008 will be eligible to enter the scheme in September 2011 or September 2012, in such cases parents are urged to choose the year that would most suit their Childs needs.  Please note the entitlement is for 1 continuous year only and cannot be divided between two or more Pre School services.

Changes to the ECCE Scheme will come into effect from September 2012. For more detailed information, please click here.

Community Childcare Subvention (CSS) Scheme

The CCS Scheme enables Community Childcare Services such as crèches, playschools, pre schools and after school services which operate on a not-for –profit basis and are managed by a committee,  to give parents in receipt of certain social welfare payments (the majority of which are covered under the CSS Scheme), Family Income Supplement, and holders of medical cards and GP visit cards, a reduction in their childcare fees.

Community Education and Training Support Scheme

The CETS Scheme provides financial support to participants availing of certain FAS and VEC training courses. VEC students will normally qualify for a CETS childcare place for 43 weeks from Sept to June of each year. FAS trainees will generally qualify for a CETS childcare place for courses of at least 10 weeks.

How do I access a CETS place?

If a parent is eligible for the CETS Scheme; they will receive a letter of eligibility from FAS/VEC stating their entitlement.

Parents can then contact WxCCC for a list of services offering the CETS scheme or download a copy of this list on our "Parents Menu” to the left of this page.
