When/how should I notify my Childminding service or to whom?
At present, Childminders can legally care for 3 or fewer *pre-school children without being obliged to notify the HSE. This number includes the childminders own children. Only 2 of these children can be aged 15 months or less. A childminder may not care for more than 5 pre-school children at any one time. There are two types of notification in place for childminders.
1. Voluntary Notification

If a childminder cares for 3 or fewer pre-school children they may choose to Voluntarily Notify Wexford County Childcare Committee. In order to do this the childminder must complete a self evaluation form and meet the criteria as outlined on the form. The Childminder Co-ordinator will assist the childminder through this simple process, will visit the childminder in their home and support the childminder to the best of her ability.

If a Childminder is caring for more than 3 pre-school children s/he is subject to the Childcare (Pre-School Services) (No.2) Regulations 2006 and is obliged to notify the HSE of their service. The Childminder is obliged to give the HSE 28 days notice prior to taking on their 4th pre-school child.

Garda Vetting
